Facing an interview with confidence

An interview is one of the major considerations that a company takes a closer look at when they look and hire for new employees. It is in the interview that an applicant can show his/her composure, ability to answer questions, oral communication skills, and personality. And so, it is really important that you get yourself equip at this.
How do you get equipped at this? Aside from having the knowledge in the job that you are applying for and mastering your skills and abilities you have written in the resume, you must equip your mind and your body. You have to condition yourself that you can do this and maintain that until the end of the interview session.
So how do you do this? How do you prepare yourself then? Well, just be confident then. Here are the bricks as to how to build that confidence in you:
1. Understand what confidence means. Being nervous does not really mean you are not confident anymore. Confidence is the willingness to face your fears despite of nervousness and uneasiness. This is the ability to conceal that nervousness and divert your interviewers’ attention to your composure and your ability to answer their questions. Having this in mind, you can tell yourself that it is okay to be nervous as long as you don’t show it.
2. Look at an interview in a positive perspective. Maybe the reason why applicants get easily rattled with interviews is the fact that they will be asked so much questions and the pressure of making sure that you please the interviewers with your answers in order to get hired. Why not look at it this way? Treat it as how a special guest in a talk show would treat it. See yourself as someone whom the interviewers would like to know more of and would like to learn from. That way, you can gain that confidence of expressing your strengths and weaknesses to your “audience”.
3. Maintain a good posture in everything you do. Starting today, as in right at this very moment, sit straight. Stand erect. Chin up. Stomach in. Chest out. Make this a part of you. Allow your body to get used to this so that you can relax while maintaining a good posture. Many people feel awkward and uneasy during interviews because they also worry much on how they can maintain their posture because their body is not used to it. Your posture should be the least of your worries during your interview.
4. Projection exercises and practice will be of great help. You may try to look at yourself in the mirror and talk to yourself, or practice how you would answer questions orally. You might feel awkward at first but actually it all starts from being confident to face yourself and start feeling comfortable in watching yourself talk and project yourself. That way, you can make adjustments as to how you would say things, how you smile, etc. Confidence should start from facing yourself before you will be confident enough to face others. You are your worst critic, they say.
5. Talk to people. Share your views on things. Pose some questions. Strike a conversation. But do not monopolize it. This will make you get used to talking and listening. And always show enthusiasm especially in conversations. Now if your friends are into English speaking, the better.
6. Feel good, think good. Love yourself and believe that you can make a difference to others and to the world. This may sound corny and all but you should start feeling good about yourself. You are not as bad as you think you are.
Building the confidence to face people takes a simple conditioning and a “pat-on-the- back” as you believe and have faith in yourself and your capabilities. It all starts from within. Before you can gain the confidence of people in what you can do, you must first gain that for yourself. You are good at this. You are going to be the best at this. Now go kick some butt!
